Could roads generate clean energy?
Imagine all the roads in your town or city being replaced by shiny new super-strength glass highways, with solar panels that would generate enough electricity to power your home and business.
It seems like something straight out of a science fiction novel, but it is indeed a project which could one day become reality thanks to an innovative US company called Solar Roadways.
This amazing new concept could one day see an end to carbon polluting asphalt roads being built and replacing them with glass as strong as steel containing special LED lights and microchips which will allow power to be generated from the sun.
These roads in essence could pay for themselves many times over, while dramatically reducing the planet’s need for fossil fuels. The US government liked the idea so much, they commissioned the company to build a prototype of their suggestions.
