Lanarkshire Business Celebrates Green Awards Success

Lanarkshire-based insurance intermediary The Green Insurance Company is celebrating after being honoured as one of the UK’s best ‘Green’ businesses.

The company picked up the award for ‘Best Financial Business’ at the prestigious Green Business Awards, held last week in London’s Grosvenor House.

The awards celebrate the most innovative, ambitious and effective initiatives by UK companies, in response to the pressing challenges of global sustainability and climate change. The Green Insurance Company beat off competition from some of the UK’s top companies to scoop the award.

Managing Director Andrew McMillan expressed his delight at the win; “It has always been the aim of The Green Insurance Company to make it easy for our customers to be ‘green’. However, we’ve proven over the past year that environmentally responsible behaviour can also benefit business performance and the ‘bottom line’, and I’m delighted that we have been recognised for our efforts?.

He added, “The response from the public towards the launch of The Green Insurance Company has been fantastic and has exceeded all of my expectations. I am thrilled to have been able to expand our business at such a rapid rate, and now to celebrate winning this fantastic award in recognition of our achievements?.

Part of the unique appeal of The Green Insurance Company is its pledge to offset 100% of the carbon emissions generated by customers’ cars. To date, more than 26,000 tonnes of carbon emissions have been offset through the planting of more than 100,000 trees in locations across Scotland and the North of England.

Andrew McMillan added, “The Green Insurance Company is also fully committed to minimising its own environmental impact, through using recycled or sustainable materials, as well as investing in a fleet of hybrid company cars for our employees. We’re also not afraid to put our money where our mouth is, and pledge 5% of our annual profits to good causes?.
