Wacky Racers Push the Green Message

The Green Insurance Company has banned employees from driving to work today (Friday 23 May) for their ‘Wacky Commuting Day’. All employees must find an alternative, environmentally friendly way to travel to work and the wackier it is the better!

Following in footsteps of Penelope Pitstop, Dastardly & Mutley and co, the ‘Wacky Commuting Day’ is a way for the company to help the environment and show businesses across Scotland how it can be done, whilst having fun.

Based in Uddingston, staff at the environmentally friendly insurance firm jumped on scooters and went a little ‘Roller Girl’, using wheels of a different sort in a bid to get to work. Managing director, Andrew McMillan joined in the wacky fun by walking to work dressed at the company mascot, Grimple.

Andrew said: “It is really important to get staff involved in an issue the company feels strongly about. We are committed to the green cause and we want to do everything we can to highlight the issues currently affecting our environment. We already provide employees with low emission cars, but there is still more to be done. Everyone is really excited and there were some great contenders for the wackiest racer prize!?

According to a recent Scottish household survey, 70% of people travel to work by car or van on a regular basis.  Employees at this Scottish firm wanted to highlight that it doesn’t have to be this way and even though they have their own ‘Mean Machines’ - low emission hybrid company cars – this initiative raises awareness of how our commute can affect the environment.

The Green Insurance Company is committed to making it easier for people to be more environmentally friendly and they believe Scottish businesses can lead the way, involving their employees in making a difference.

As well as cutting down on Scotland’s carbon emissions, the Green Insurance Company is pledging to donate 50% of its profits on that day to local charity, Sustrans.
