The Budongo Conservation Field Station in Uganda is the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s flagship overseas conservation project. Set up to ensure the health, safety and preservation of the areas 640 chimpanzees.
Buying camping equipment, employing hunters and relocating a school might not seem like typical conservation work. But these are vital parts of the work in the Budongo forest. The main focus is the conservation and study of the chimpanzees; but activities now cover wider conservation issues to encompass all the other inhabitants who depend upon the forest for survival.

As with all of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s conservation work, the foundation for its success is its on-going community engagement and education.
We work closely with local adults and children to encourage conservation at grass roots level: setting up school wildlife clubs, nominating villagers to oversee local conservation projects, and helping to identify alternative income sources that decrease the destruction of the forest’s valuable resources.
Please choose to help The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland develop this project into one that helps an entire ecosystem.
